Every Monday, I share my "reading notes". Those are a curated list of all the articles, blog posts, podcast episodes, and books that catch my interest during the week and that I found interesting. It's a mix of the actuality and what I consumed.

• Azure Machine Learning helps customers stay ahead of challenges (Erez Barak) - A nice post to get us inspires to start our journey.

• Azure introduces new capabilities for live video analytics (Jason Hogg) - The custom vision was already as impressive as a service. So easy to use and powerful. But now in a video...that's incredibly cool.

Programming

• How to use, open, resize, and split Panes in the Windows Terminal (Scott Hanselman) - Tabs are so useful! And now it's native...awesome.

• 10 Azure DevOps – Work Items Tips & Tricks that you should know (Abhijit Jana) - Nice post. Did you know all those?

• GitHub Docs are now open source (Janice Niemeir) - Open-source documentation is the best. Faster updated, often more accurate and complete... And all of it at one URL easy to remember fantastic.

• How to use autocomplete at the command line for dotnet, git, winget, and more! (Scott Hanselman) - I love that shell/ terminal series... Learn something new each time.

• Writing JavaScript tools in other languages – a new trend? (Dr. Axel Rauschmayer) - Javascript or not javascript... I'm surprised how the opinions are so strong.

Podcasts

• #23 Fatal Conveniences™: Caffeine: Consuming Coffee With Caution (The Darin Olien Show) - Apparently not a usual episode ( I don't know it was my first one), but really interesting deep dive into the coffee world; the effect, origin and more.
• Podcast Crasher – The Binge Factor: Pat Flynn On Building An Online Business From a Podcast (Feed Your Brand) - This episode it the counterpart of another episode that happens on Pat Flynn show. Really interesting topic I don't think about my content that way... Maybe I should, a little.
• #54: Yihua Zhang - From Fitness to Coding [S03-E12] (The Solo Coder Podcast) - WHen you like what you are doing I think it shows. It doesn't mean you will always be a super start, but at least you will be happy and most of the time it will be really good for your career. Fantastic story, inspiring.
• Microsoft Identity for Developers (CloudSkills.fm) - Nice episode I think Identity/security is a really hard topic to abort, and those guys are doing a great

Miscellaneous

• 40 Microsoft Teams tips and tricks: from novice to expert. - Great tips for beginners to advanced Teams users.

Cloud

• Azure Cloud Shell + zsh, oh-my-zsh, tmux, and badass terminal! (Jessica Deen) - Cool walkthrough that explains all to get a nice looking cloud shell.

• Updating the my blog from AppService to Containers...finally (Shayne Boyer) - Awesome walkthrough. As an ex-user of Ghost on Azure I understand the trouble. Containers and a database as service are perfect for this situation.

Programming

• CLI vs GitKraken Git GUI Speed Test (Jesus Murillo) - I love GitKraken, I still use the CLI and the integrated git in VSCode, but to really see things... It's the best, and wow it looks cool.

• ASP.Net Core 3 – Dependency Injection (Michał Białecki) - A nice tutorial that explains an important concept, and shows how to implement it.

• Create fake user for ASP.NET Core integration tests (Gunnar Peipman) - An awesome tutorial that explains how to build a very useful utility...a fake user.

• Yori - The quiet little CMD replacement that you need to install NOW (Scott Hanselman) - I love it. I didn't even finish reading this post and one thing bringing another I was streaming live installing and playing with Yori.

Podcasts

• Episode 49 - Blazor, .Net Core 3.1 and spelling reforms with Daniel Roth (Coding After Work Podcast) - Great episode with the very energetic Daniel. A ton of information and thank you for all the URLs in the notes.

• SPI 404: The 5 Dysfunctions of a Team with Patrick Lencioni (The Smart Passive Income) - I read The Five Dysfunctions of a Team a few years ago and loved it. It was really interesting to listen to the author talking sharing all that wisdom. A must! (book and episode).

• Entity Framework Core 3 with Julie Lerman (.NET Rocks!) - What a great episode with Entity framework goddess in person. As I'm planning to use EF in a new project, this refresh was awesome!

• #23: John Sonmez - Becoming a Finisher, Part 1 (The Solo Coder Podcast) - I know, read and follow Simpler Programmer. It was so great to heard all the work that was put in to arrive to the current status. So many of us think it's a night success... Looking forward to listening to part 2.

Miscellaneous

• 8 reasons why we should all walk more (BBC Radio) - Interesting post that shares the benefits of a nice walmk.

• How to Create Great Tech Demos and Presentations (Thomas Maurer) - Awesome list of tips to give the best presentation possible.

Reading Notes #396

• The one who created languages (Anne-Laure Civeyrac) - Fantastic article and video. It's a must.

• What's the difference between a console, a terminal, and a shell? (Scott Hanselman) - Fantastic post short and clear. It's so simple, yet could still be confusing at the same time. Well, until you read this post.

Programming

• Now is the time to make a fresh new Windows Terminal profiles.json (Scott Hanselman) - I have never been so excited about a terminal. But this one wants to do things right, option and flexibility without being too complex to use and setup.

• Blazor Server in .NET Core 3.0 scenarios and performance (Daniel Ruth) - Great post that explains which version of Blazor could be used in different scenarios and when it better to use something else.

• ASP.NET Core and Blazor updates in .NET Core 3.0 Release Candidate 1 (Daniel Ruth) - Wonderful! The release candidate is already available.

• How to build with Cake on Linux using Cake.CoreCLR or the Cake global tool (Andrew Lock) - Great post playing with .Net Core on the Linux side...does v3.0 will have an impact...

• Run an External Executable in ASP.NET Core (Changhui Xu) - An interesting post, very clear.

• Visual Studio Remotes: Simplifying developer environments (Martin Moxon) - If you didn't try yet the remote feature of VSCode, read this post and give it a try. It's a game-changing feature.

Miscellaneous

• Runtime binding with Azure Functions (Craig Shoemaker) - Great post that goes over the Azure Function binding.

• How to Use Github Professionally (Aaron Stannard) - This post is great! Tons of information and best practices (with an explanation of why its a best practice).

• Please, everyone, put your entire development environment in Github (Burke Holland) - OMG! It is sooooo simple! I was already using containers to develop, but didn't know VSCode could manage that for me! And make it easily reproducible!

• The Azure Cloud Shell Connector in Windows Terminal | Windows Command Line Tools For Developers (Pankaj Bhojwani) - Pure happiness.

Programming

• 5 Things to Try with Docker Desktop WSL 2 Tech Preview - Docker Blog (Ben De St Paer-Gotch) - So cool...
• 10 Git Tricks to Save Your Time and Sanity (Jacob Herrington) - Really useful (and even cool) git commands. Try them you'll see what I mean.
• ASP.NET Core and Blazor updates in .NET Core 3.0 Preview 8 (Sourabh Shirhatti) - Nice update. Be aware of a few breaking changes...but it's all for the best.
• Build Data-Driven Web Apps Blazing Fast with Blazor and OData ( Jeremy Likness) - This post is a great tutorial that explains how to build a complete todo list use that tech. Really cool.
• Developing Docker-Powered Applications on Windows with WSL 2 - Docker Blog (Antonis Kalipetis) - That new Docker desktop version looks very promising
• GitKraken & Glo Boards Now Support GitHub Actions (Lauren Witte Girard) - Great. Now we only just need the GitHub action...
• Investigating Drag and Drop with Blazor (Chris Sainty) - Interesting share of an experiment.

Books

Living with the Monks: What Turning Off My Phone Taught Me about Happiness, Gratitude, and Focus

I really enjoyed this book. Yes it's light and funny, but don't get fool, there is a deeper message here. I think Jessy wins his challenge by going into a monastery so we don't have to. We all have what it takes to live a more purposeful life, we just need to pause. Showdown, to go faster, do less to do more... Embrace the silence.
